What is DNS propagation?

When you change a DNS record, authoritative servers update immediately — but recursive resolvers worldwide cache the old answer until the record's TTL expires. "Propagation" means waiting for those caches to refresh and return the new value.

How to verify propagation with DNS Buddy

  1. Open DNS Lookup and enter the hostname you changed.
  2. Select the record type (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.) and run the query.
  3. Compare answers from Google, Cloudflare, Quad9, and OpenDNS. Matching values mean major resolvers agree.
  4. If one resolver is stale, wait one TTL cycle and re-check. Lower TTL before migrations to speed this up.
